Multiplayer Dev Diary #1 - Game Maps
Hello raiders!
Here we are with another dev diary for our multiplayer project. We are thrilled to have received so much feedback and are excited to delve into this new diary with you! Please keep in mind that all images we share are concept art and work in progress, not final game footage.
Today, we are going to be a little more specific about one of the aspects we are focusing on at this stage of the project: the game maps.
As you know, working on maps is extremely important. In a multiplayer game, maps are crucial, and we are trying different solutions to find a good balance between the different components used to customize the map, the overall aesthetic, and specific gameplay needs. We are working on these aspects simultaneously to create a consistent environment both in terms of appearance and gameplay.
First and foremost, we want our maps to be extremely fun for you, but we also have other ideas we need to work on. In fact, as mentioned in the first dev diary, we are ready to introduce a type of setting in multiplayer that is not present in the single-player project: planets, which require different considerations than more open environments in deep space.
So, we decided to start with a first planet, where we are working on different concepts to hypothesize spaces, structures, and obstacles, as well as its overall aesthetic.
We are also trying to create mystery zones where players can hunt each other. In line with our vision, we decided to include ancient ruins of a vanished civilization in the multiplayer project, scattered across the planets of the galaxy, for which we are exploring different compositional solutions.
We also want to use ruins because we believe they are a fun gameplay element that players can use either for hiding or as vantage points from which to attack an enemy. We are designing structural elements to be placed on planets that will add to the dynamics of orbital flight and be consistent with the lore we are developing for this project, creating a unique world in which to collide.
A living galaxy that tells its past through its environments and with which we hope to surprise and entertain you. But also a dangerous galaxy, where the real question is who these ruins belonged to and what they seem to hide…
Well, that is another story that we will tell you in future diaries. In the meantime, keep following us to get the latest news on the project and give us your feedback.
Farewell, raiders!
