Multiplayer Dev Diary #0 - Introduction

Hello raiders!

Welcome to the first dev diary of our multiplayer project, Haunted Space: The Origin. We are super excited to finally share with you the work we are doing, starting from the common vision between our singleplayer and multiplayer games.

When we started creating Neterun, the galaxy where the story of our single-player project is set, we defined several key aspects we were interested in developing.

We wanted in-depth worldbuilding and lore, as well as a recognizable aesthetic.

We wanted characters to be stripped of their ultimate limitation, the physical body, to travel the cosmos and explore the consequences of all this.

We aimed to create engaging combat and different ways to deal with enemies.

We envisioned a vibrant galaxy inhabited by giant beings and filled with ancient, mysterious ruins.

Here is the Vision: avoiding a classical aesthetic, we created stories that appealed to our love of space combat and science fiction, seasoned with a dash of Mad Max, a dose of transhumanism, and a bit of Lovecraftian imagery (albeit reinterpreted and reimagined in our own way).

This Vision is also the basis for Haunted Space: The origin. We are working on the multiplayer game with the same know-how and some assets we acquired with the single-player one, and because of this, we are managing to speed up the timelines during the various stages of production.

At the moment, we are focusing on two aspects of the game. Please keep in mind that the images we share are still works in progress

First of all, we are creating specific maps for the different game modes that we are developing, introducing a novelty compared to what you will see in the single-player project: planets! We are working on the level design of our planets to create compelling arenas for you raiders out there. While we cannot reveal any details about the lore yet, we assure you that what you will see in these maps will respect the core ingredients of our Vision.

The second aspect we are focusing on is the design of the Bodies in which you will be installed, or your ships. We are focusing on this aspect both from an aesthetic point of view, creating attractive shapes, and from a design perspective, defining the game parameters. This work is essential due to the obvious differences between a single-player and a multiplayer game.

That’s all for this first dev diary, but we look forward to sharing more details about the multiplayer development with you. We still have a lot of exciting news to share and we hope you will continue to support and follow us.

Farewell, raiders!
